Silver and Bronze at the Tokyo Awards

April 10, 2018

Good news! Results of the 2017 Tokyo International Foto Awards have been announced and I am pleased to announce two of my projects have been awarded silver and gold in two different categories.

The picture story of the wedding of Patrick and Fanny was a silver winner in the category People- Wedding.

The wedding of Patrick and Fanny was celebrated in February 2017 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Patrick is a Burkinabé; Fanny is a French national. Beyond being a reportage of the day, this series wants to explore the similarities and the differences between the two cultures. A former French colony, Burkina Faso gained independence as Upper Volta in 1960 but there is still a strong bond between the two countries.

The full story can be seen here.

I was also very happy to find out that my photo story about the women of Sardinia was a bronze winner in the People-Culture section.

Woman of Sardinia is part of an ongoing documentary project about century-long traditions on the island of Sardinia, with a special attention to the inland region of Barbagia. Another section of this project, dedicated to Sardinian carnivals, was a silver winner in the same category last year so this new achievement means a lot to me.

Both projects will be part of the TIFA exhibition which will take place at the ICA Gallery in Tokyo from the 12th to the 16th of May 2018.  The event opening will take place on Sunday 13th of May afternoon from 3pm onwards including a “Meet & Greet” with TIFA team.
